Meet GlossBoss Lucille Ball

Here's why everyone loves Lucy

The most well known red head, Lucille Ball, knew she wanted to be an actress since the young age of 12. Early on, she enrolled in acting classes and attended the John Murray Anderson School of Dramatic Arts. Unfortunately for Lucille, she didn't enjoy her time at the school at all. Too nervous to command center stage, Some of Lucille's teachers even told her mother that Lucille was wasting her time and their time as they confessed that Lucille wasn't a great actress. However, in true GlossBoss fashion, Miss Ball ignored the haters and forged her own path as Diane Belmont.

Diane Belmont is the name Lucille Ball used during her brief and rather unsuccessful stint as a model. With bigger dreams of being an actress, Diane went back to Lucille and left New York City for Hollywood.

In Hollywood, Lucille enjoyed her success as an actress in a string of second tier movies. She earned the title, 'The Queen of B Movies.' It was during one of these 'B movies', Lucille met her future husband, Desi Arnaz. Despite her long list of movies under her belt, Lucille never got the starring movie role she had always dreamt of.

Eventually, Lucille switched from movies to radio broadcasting. She took on the lead role in the radio show, My Favourite Husband. CBS loved the show and wanted to pick it up for television. Lucille insisted on having her real life husband (at the time), Desi Arnaz to play her on-screen husband. When the studio denied her request, Lucy and Desi took their show on the road. Their shows sold out and soon CBS came back ready to put them on screen.

On October 15th, 1951, the first episode of I Love Lucy aired and as they say the rest is history. During its six season run, it became the first sitcom to reach number 1 in ratings for four of those seasons. The show was iconic to say the least and set a number of TV firsts for Hollywood. I Love Lucy became the first show film in front of a live studio audience while filming on a three camera format. It was also one of the first shows that used lighting from above and filmed in Los Angles rather than New York. It was Desi Arnaz's idea to play old episodes while the actors were preparing for the next season, thus creating the profitable 'rerun'. Prior to the show, Desi and Lucy started their own production studio, 'Desilu Productions'. This made Lucille Ball the first woman to own a major production studio. Their studio produced I Love Lucy, Star Trek, The Dick Van Dyke Show and many other classics. With their successful production company and even more successful show, Desi and Lucy became one of the first tv millionaires.

The final episode of I Love Lucy aired on May 6th, 1957. While Lucy and Ricki on the show lived happily ever after, Lucy and Desi divorced a few short years later. In 1961, Lucy went on to marry Gary Morton and eventually sold Desilu productions and went off to star in other shows like, Here's Lucy and Life with Lucy.

Sadly, Lucille Ball passed away in 1989, but her impact on television is still felt today. She continues to make millions of people laugh all because she had the courage to chase her dreams.

Remember if she can do it; you can too! 💋
